The Blue Ridge Parkway stretches through Virginia and North Carolina for 469 miles, offering travelers spectacular views of mountain meadows, old farm houses, split-rail fences and scenic overlooks. With roughly 16 million visitors each year, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the most visited National Park System. Until the Peaks of Otter Lodge in the Bedford, VA area closed in November 2012, it was a popular destination with visitors from around the world, especially vacationers from England. The parkway is especially popular on “Peak Weekend” – usually the 3rd weekend in October – when the leaves are at their “peak” for color – blazing oranges, vibrant red and an array of many other gorgeous colors.
